End taxation on feminine products. These items are NOT a luxury!

The Issue

For women, having a period is not a luxury. The items we use should not be taxed as such.

Roughly 60,000 women in Indiana live below the poverty line. The Gender Wage Gap in our state is a whopping 75.3 cents. Based on those numbers, it is imperative that we support the sales tax exemption of feminine products.

In 2016, then-Indiana Rep. Christina Hale introduced the original amendment, which was voted down. With the help of Rep. Carey Hamilton, and with your signed support, we can move to have this bill put back on the floor for a vote in 2017!

6 states have already made feminine products tax exempt: MD, PA, NJ, MA, MN and most recently, NY, whose Governor, Andrew Cuomo, stated, "This is a regressive tax on essential products that women have had to pay for far too long and lifting it is a matter of social and economic justice". It is estimated that the exemption will save the consumers of New York state an estimated $10 million a year.
