Stop the process to install a Wind Turbine in Dunfermline Public Park

The Issue

Dunfermline Public Park is an important greenspace that is currently being improved and developed by Fife Council and the local community. This is a historic conservation area, public recreational space and not the place for a Wind Turbine Project.

Dear constituent, Thanks for taking the time to contact me about the possibility of a Wind Turbine being installed in Dunfermline Public Park. Having looked into this issue I have been advised that there are no plans to place wind turbines in Dunfermline Public Park, although the Council are investigating the possibility of a building connected turbine at Commercial Primary School, adjacent to the Public Park. This would be of similar design to the small turbine at Carnegie Primary School. A building connected turbine adajecent to the Park, at Commerical Primary School, was just one of a list of sites under investigation to be potentially be included in a future public consultation on the location of wind turbine sites. So this is very much a pre-consultation - I understand that the findings will be relayed to local Councillors at the Dunfermline Area Committee meeting in either April or May, who will dicuss possible sites, before being passed to the Council Executive for a decision on which sites to accept. It's only after this that consultation will commence on any possible planning applications and therefore I suggest that if this proposal still concerns you, you contact your local Councillor in advance of these meetings. I do however appreciate the concern this possibility has raised and will write to Fife Council requesting written confirmation that no turbines are planned for the Public Park - hopefully this will provide reassurance that their are in fact no plans at this time. In the meantime, I do have a copy of the briefing Fife Council has provided to elected members on this issue and if you'd like a copy, please get in touch with me at cara.hilton.msp@scottish.parliament.uk.
