Open the CACP swimming pool

Open the CACP swimming pool
The Issue
The residents of Cape Arundel Cottage Preserve would like our access to our swimming pool to be restored. Each year, residents pay $3,180 in HOA fees, which are paid to maintain and allow the use of the lovely amenities at CACP, amongst other things. The swimming pool was slated to open on May 1, however, this has been delayed due to the pandemic. At first, the reasoning was that there was a fear of the amount of COVID-19 cases in Maine and the surrounding states. We have waited patiently for the worst of the pandemic to pass. Now, the cases in Maine and the New England states have been rapidly declining. The Governor's office has relaxed regulations regarding COVID-19, including beach access, sunbathing, indoor dining, and shopping in York County. However, our community swimming pool remains closed. Community pools in neighboring towns such as Wells have opened for the summer. In addition, I have made a call to Governor Mills' office on June 17th, 2020, and was informed by their office that the governor has not issued any restrictions regarding outdoor swimming pools. The risk of contracting COVID-19 by swimming in a community pool that is outside is extremely low. The CDC has issued a document called "Guidance for Cleaning and Disinfecting Public Spaces, Workplaces, Businesses, Schools, and Homes." Within this document, there is a subheading "Is the area outdoors? This section states "There is no evidence that the virus that causes COVID-19 can spread directly to humans from water in pools, hot tubs, or spas, or water play areas. Proper operation, maintenance, and disinfection (for example, with chlorine or bromine) of pools, hot tubs, or spas, and water playgrounds should kill the virus that causes COVID-19 (cdc.gov, 4/28/2020)." You can access this document by clicking here. If you agree that you feel that you can make your own decisions about how to keep you and your family safe while maintaining social distancing when using the CACP swimming pool please add your name to this petition, which will be presented to the CACP board.
