Cap the Number of Uber Drivers in Edmonton and Increase Fare Rates for Fair Driver Earning

Cap the Number of Uber Drivers in Edmonton and Increase Fare Rates for Fair Driver Earning
The Issue
As the number of Uber drivers in Edmonton continues to rise, many drivers are finding it increasingly difficult to earn a sustainable income. The oversaturation of drivers leads to fewer rides per driver, longer wait times, and increased competition. This is not only affecting the livelihoods of drivers but also compromising the quality of service for riders.
We, the undersigned, urge Uber to implement the following changes in Edmonton:
1. Cap on New Driver Hires:
To ensure that current drivers can take home a fair income, we propose a cap on the number of new drivers being hired in Edmonton. This will help balance supply and demand, ensuring that drivers can consistently earn a living wage.
2. Increase in Fare Rates:
We request an increase in fare rates to $1.01 per kilometer and $0.35 per minute. This adjustment will better reflect the costs associated with driving and provide drivers with the income they deserve for their time and effort.
3. Priority Airport Pickup for Dropped-Off Drivers:
We ask for the implementation of a system that gives priority to drivers who drop off passengers at the airport, allowing them to pick up another fare without waiting in the queue. This system is already in place at some airports and would greatly benefit drivers by reducing wait times and maximizing their earnings.
These changes will not only improve the working conditions for Uber drivers in Edmonton but also ensure that riders receive better service. We believe that a fair balance between driver supply and demand, coupled with appropriate fare rates, is essential for the sustainability of Uber’s service in our city.
Please join us in supporting these necessary changes by signing this petition. Together, we can make a difference for Uber drivers in Edmonton and help them earn the income they deserve.
