Cap or Subsidise Rapid Charger Rates to Promote Electric Vehicle Use

Cap or Subsidise Rapid Charger Rates to Promote Electric Vehicle Use
The Issue
As an electric vehicle owner committed to reducing CO2 emissions and promoting clean air, I am deeply concerned about the escalating costs of rapid chargers across the country. Currently, most are charging an exorbitant 70p per kWh/h. This cost, coupled with a lack of accessible and functioning chargers, is discouraging many from using electric vehicles and pushing them back towards Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles.
These high rates are not only prohibitive for individuals but also for businesses. For those who have exceeded 10,000 miles in their electric vehicles like me, these costs far outweigh the expenses we can claim back and exceed the cost of travelling long distances by Diesel or Petrol.
This situation is counterproductive to our national goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. According to a report by the Committee on Climate Change (CCC), road transport accounts for about 20% of all UK emissions - with cars contributing around 60% of these emissions. Electric vehicles offer a viable solution to this problem if adequately supported.
Therefore, I propose that legislation be enacted to cap rates or subsidise charging for electric vehicle owners. By doing so, we can make it more affordable for people to use electric cars regularly and contribute positively towards our environment's health.
Please sign this petition if you believe in making sustainable transportation choices more accessible and affordable for everyone in our country.
