Cap Excessive Fees Added by Debt Collectors

Cap Excessive Fees Added by Debt Collectors
The Issue
My story is just a small fraction compared to the many people out there fearing for their home and families and being forced into unrealistic payment plans and debts. I got a PCN that was £35 and through my own fault I admit it got unintentionally forgotten and missed so it escalated to debt collectors who now think £425 is a reasonable amount to try and charge me. We need to make a stand against these bullies and chancers.
Debt collectors are profiting off the backs of hardworking individuals who have simply made a small financial mistake or encountered unforeseen circumstances. An initial debt of £35 ballooning to £425 is not just unfair, it's highway robbery. This pattern is not just an isolated incident; it's a systematic issue that is affecting countless individuals. Many people are living in fear of losing their homes and the basic security of their families due to such unethical practices.
Statistics show that debt collector fees can sometimes constitute over 30% of the total amount owed. With over 8.3 million individuals in the UK alone relying on debt relief solutions, excessive fees imposed by debt collectors are exacerbating an already serious issue, creating a snowball effect of unmanageable debt levels.
To combat this, we need legislation that caps the additional fees that debt collectors can add to any outstanding debt. This will ensure that fees are fair, transparent, and not making a debtor's situation worse. Implementing a regulatory cap will deter these companies from exploiting vulnerable individuals and will adhere to ethical financial practices.
Take action now to protect yourself and future generations from falling prey to exorbitant debt collection fees. Ensuring a cap on fees is not just about protecting personal finances, it's about maintaining a sense of fairness and dignity in financial dealings. Sign this petition to demand a change in the law, to protect vulnerable individuals from being further exploited by opportunistic debt collection firms.
