We visited Armando this week to see how he is getting on and he is still in the process of unpacking and settling in with the help of Gravesham Sea Cadets who have again given up some time to support him. Some time ago we agreed to support him by staying with him until he was fully operational in his hobby. In our last update we said we thought we were nearly done and about to close the petition however this is not so. Rather than getting on with his his life, as promised by the CEO of East Kent Housing several months ago, he has been subject to what can only be described as "excessive, creeping bureaucracy". After receiving a set of rules in February which he agreed to, he has since been refused twice their permission to carry out the type of permitted developments that other radio hams take for granted - apparently in order to protect the property from the type of minor damage than can be repaired by a coat of paint or a few pounds. More rules have been issued as he attempts to plan his antenna system. We think this is contrary to the spirit of the petition and he is still being treated differently. Apart from this, he is settling in and making space in his new place. To be fair we have a lot to be grateful for and have written to EKH to thank them so far but have had to challenge them and Canterbury City Council again. As ever we hope to report soon that he is up and running and thank the Radio Society of Great Britain who have been very helpful.
