Woodbury (Cannon County) TN is a proud community located about 20 miles East of Murfreesboro, TN.  It’s near MTSU (Middle Tennessee State University) which is Tennessee’s largest state supported university.

Woodbury is “only 55 miles from Nashville, but it’s a world away”.  About 3,000 people live in Woodbury,  and Cannon County population is about 14,000

Despite it’s small size,  Woodbury,  TN has one of the largest Lion’s Clubs in the State of Tennessee.

The Lion’s Club Motto is:

“We Serve”.

Sadly,   the Woodbury Lion’s Club biggest fund raiser is a Horse Show which features Animal Cruelty to Tennessee Walking Horses (“Big Lick”).  The Lions Club was chartered in 1935, and the Horse Show began in 1938.

The Tennessee Walking Horse was not abused with endemic institutionalized “SORING” until the 1960s.   A Federal Law - Horse Protection Act of 1970 - was passed to stop it, but it has NOT stopped the Animal Cruelty.

The Woodbury Lions Club Horse Show features “Big Lick” Tennessee Walking Horses.  Most of the classes feature “Big Lick”Tennessee Walking Horses (24 of 40 classes). Almost 80% of the horses shown are “Big Lick”.

This includes:  “BABY” - Two Year Olds -nwearing approximately EIGHT POUND SHOES,   and CHAINS which hit the sensitive skin above the horses front hooves making them step high with their front legs.  This is the “Big Lick” gait.

Native Tennessean distinguished MTSU Horse Science Professor Equine Vet Dr. John Haffner says the “Big Lick” is Animal Cruelty -  “It’s a pain induced gait … a business based upon the suffering and pain of Horses”.

The Woodbury Lions Club raises money from the Animal Cruelty and then makes charitable donations.

No Charitable Donation is worth Animal Cruelty!

This shocking Video from the 2018 Woodbury Lions Club has now been viewed over 78,000 times.

Interestingly,  women prominently serve as officers of the Woodbury Lions Club:

President -Katherine Mangione-Swoape   - Education Professor - MTSU

Past President -Gina Mitchell - Office Manager - Christ Followers Church

1st Vice President - Danny Miller

2nd Vice President -William "Bill" McCrary

3rd Vice President - Travis Mattox

Lion Tamer - Sarah Ferrell

Tail Twister - Randy Greenwood

The Woodbury Lions Club owns its Club Building.

It’s 2019, and Woodbury(Cannon County) TN is too fine a place, and it simply does not need “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty on display at its beautiful “Fair Grounds”.
