Petitioning City of Lansing, Michigan

CANCELLED PETITION: City of Lansing, Michigan: Allow the Blackened Moon Concert Hall to re-open.

Well, this is embarrassing.

The City of Lansing had nothing to do with the closure. As it turns out, the venue was closed due to the lack of proper permits, and the decision to close exists not between the BMCH and the City, but between the owner and his landlord.

I was acting on too little information and hearsay, and I sincerely apologize. My heart may have been in the right place, but I failed to gather all the facts before opening this petition.

May a new venue for metal soon rise.

Regretfully yours,

A. G.

The Blackened Moon Concert Hall is a venue that caters to fans of heavy metal in the capital area. On Monday, October 8, a shooting occurred in the parking lot after the Blackened Moon had closed for the night (after a one-off hip-hop show, no less), and as a result the city government has ordered the venue shut down.

This cannot be allowed to happen. The Blackened Moon is one-of-a-kind business—venues that principally host metal shows are extremely rare, not only in the state of Michigan, but in the whole nation. As such, it's a big draw to touring bands, whether from within our borders (Battlecross, Genocya, Nocturnal Fear), from other states (AZ's Vektor, FL's Vital Remains, NY's Hellcannon, IL's Kommandant), or even from outside the nation (Singapore's Impiety, Germany's Destruction).

The Blackened Moon is a staple of the metal scene and has immense value to the Lansing metal community, of whom the shooting is entirely unrepresentative. Its shutting-down is unfair to the venue's patrons and a potential hit on the local economy, and must be reversed.
