The Issue

I am an alumnus of Swedru Secondary School and am deeply concerned about the news regarding the potential transfer of our esteemed Headmistress, Madam Golda. Her unwavering dedication to the students and her exceptional teaching prowess have left an indelible mark on many of us. This transfer seems to be the result of political interference, reportedly stemming from an MP in Agona East, due to Madam Golda’s principled refusal to comply with an unreasonable request.

Madam Golda has been a beacon of inspiration for countless students. Her leadership has not only improved academic performance but has also fostered an environment of respect, integrity, and dedication among both staff and students. Transferring her would unsettle the learning atmosphere and rob current students of a mentor who genuinely cares about their welfare and growth.

Moreover, it is crucial to respect the autonomy of educational institutions and maintain an atmosphere where decisions are made based on merit and student welfare, not political pressure. Madam Golda’s transfer under such circumstances sets a worrying precedent, undermining the integrity of educational governance in Ghana.

There is a broader implication here that goes beyond our school. If external influences start dictating administrative decisions, the educational sector in Ghana could face a systemic problem where students are the ultimate victims. Our future leaders deserve an education system devoid of politicization where qualified and dedicated educators like Madam Golda are valued and retained.

We call on the Ghana Education Service, and all relevant authorities, to reconsider this decision. Let us maintain a focus on what truly benefits Swedru Secondary and its students. Madam Golda deserves to keep her position so she can continue to make a profound difference.

I urge all my fellow alumni, current students, parents, and concerned citizens to join me in this cause. Together, we can stand against this decision and push for what is right. Please sign this petition to keep Madam Golda at Swedru Secondary School and support the welfare of our students.
