My friends and I are students in Denton, TX. Every day, we see our peers braving the extreme cold weather to get to school. Some of them have to wait for the bus in freezing temperatures or walk long distances. This not only affects their health but also their ability to focus on learning.

Extreme cold weather can lead to various health issues such as frostbite and hypothermia, especially among children who may not be adequately dressed for the cold (source: American Academy of Pediatrics). Parents too are affected as they worry about their children's safety and well-being.

In addition, according to a study by Harvard University, students learn less effectively when they're physically uncomfortable. The stress from enduring harsh weather conditions can negatively impact a student's academic performance.

We believe that cancelling school during periods of extreme cold weather is a necessary measure for the safety and well-being of all students in Denton, TX. We urge our local school district officials to consider this proposal seriously.
