The Issue

We, the undersigned residents and citizens of Canada, respectfully express our concern regarding the escalating conflict in the Middle East and the potential for Canada to become involved, either directly or indirectly.

Canada is a country built by people from many cultures, nations, and faiths who came here seeking the opportunity to build safe and secure lives for their families. Across generations, Canadians have embraced a shared vision of peace, prosperity, and coexistence rooted in respect for human rights and the rule of law.

Many Canadians, including those with personal, cultural, or family ties to the region, are watching the current escalation with deep concern for the safety of civilians and the stability of the international community.

Canada has long been respected globally for exercising restraint, prioritizing diplomacy, and advancing humanitarian values in times of conflict. These principles have helped Canada maintain a reputation as a nation that seeks peaceful solutions while respecting the dignity and rights of all people.

At the same time, rising geopolitical tensions can contribute to polarization within Canada itself. Members of the Iranian-Canadian community and others connected to the region have increasingly expressed concern about hostility, intimidation, or pressure that can make people feel unable to speak openly about their hopes for peace and de-escalation. In a diverse society like Canada, it is essential that citizens feel safe expressing views that call for restraint, dialogue, and diplomacy.

Rejecting war and military escalation does not mean supporting the actions of the Iranian regime, whose repression and violence many Canadians strongly oppose. However, many Canadians also believe that foreign military intervention risks widening the conflict and causing devastating consequences for civilians.

For these reasons, we respectfully call upon the Government of Canada and Members of Parliament to:

• Prioritize diplomacy and de-escalation in Canada’s international response

• Refrain from any direct or indirect military participation in the conflict

• Focus Canada’s efforts on humanitarian assistance for civilians affected by the crisis

• Maintain transparency with Canadians regarding any commitments or actions related to this conflict

Canada’s strength on the world stage has always come from its commitment to dialogue, restraint, and international cooperation. In moments of global tension, many Canadians hope our country will continue to lead with these values and work toward peaceful solutions that protect human life and dignity.
