Update and enforce federal livestock transport regulations

Update and enforce federal livestock transport regulations
The Issue
A year ago, four horses destined for slaughter were loaded into a small wooden crate for transport to Japan. One died before leaving the Calgary airport. In another crate, a horse became lame but was presumed fit to fly to Japan. As the horse would be judged unfit for human consumption if medicated, no analgesic was given.
These and other abuses are in direct opposition to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) regulations, which states that transporters “Provide immediate attention to animals that become unfit for transport, including veterinary treatment or euthanasia at the scene if necessary”.
Issues of animal welfare are at the heart of all veterinarians and animal health technician concerns. Please show your concern and sign and share this petition!
