Ban trapping, snaring, poisoning & trophy hunting of Native Canadian Wildlife.

Ban trapping, snaring, poisoning & trophy hunting of Native Canadian Wildlife.
The Issue
'Snares are sets of wire that form a loop and strangle any part of the animal that enters the trap. Sometimes animals die quickly. Sometimes they endure hours and even days of torture. When snares fail to close around an animals’ neck properly, the animals’ head grotesquely expands due to a build up of blood that cannot return to the heart. There is a lovely term for these animals, they’re called “jellyheads.”
Leg hold traps are intended to clamp down on animals’ paws and hold them in place until the trapper can come put them out of their misery. Trappers prefer not to waste bullets and will often club the animals or simply let them succumb to starvation. Conibear traps are meant to clamp down on smaller animals with lethal pressure but often end up doing nothing more than mortally wounding or disfiguring larger animals.
Snares and other clamping traps are often indiscriminate, torturous, and downright ruthless. They do not care if species are small or large, abundant or rare. And they are a major threat to biodiversity around the globe.' - PETA (See link on the update)
Canadian provincial governments are allowing trappers to hunt limitless numbers of native Canadian wildlife for just $15-40 per licenses annually. Canadian Lynxes, wolves, arctic foxes, bobcats, coyotes, mountain lions, martens, minks, otters & wolverines are wiped out without any consideration to their declining numbers & positive environmental impacts. So that they can become a trim on someone's jacket. In BC trappers/hunters don't even need a license to kill wolves, coyotes & small animals. Not to mention BC, AB & NWT are killing thousands of wolves in their so called effort to save Caribou population. Alpha wolf males are collared & then hunters come back & wipe out their packs indiscriminately. The ones that escape the bullets are poisoned later. The poison just don't kill the wolves but wipe out everything else in the ecosystem. Wolves are one of the apex predators that help control other smaller predators such as coyotes.
There is NO such thing as humane trapping, snaring or poisoning. In these horrible & deadly traps & snares animals die a slow, painful & agonizing death that take somewhere between 2 to 48 hours. Often times they start chewing off their own paws/limbs in agony & trying to break free of the traps/snares. My local resource management department, previously known as conservation department referred to them as 'resources to be harvested' & showed little consideration for their declining numbers despite warnings from scientists, conservationists & Canadian Wildlife Federation. They think the population can recover annually but does not want to share their research that support these claims, which raises a lot of questions to the accuracy of the data on our tax dollars. What the resource management department is doing is cherry picking data for their cause to cater to only a very low percentage of population that enjoy the blood sport, barbaric trapping, snaring, poisoning & profit from cruelty to animals. They do not call the department "conservation" anymore but resource management because conservation suggests keeping the wild lives the same or improving whereas they can "manage(kill)" the native wildlife on a slow, steady decline that is imperceptible or not noticeable to the general public until there is nothing that can be done to save the species that have been wiped out. Funny how they refer to our native wildlife as resources to be exploited by hunters & trappers.
Majority of Canadians think we should co exist with the native wildlife not replace them. These beautiful animals are slaughtered so their pelts can be sent to countries such as China, Russia, Greece & Norway etc. The Canadian trapping guide for BC, AB & MB shows the fur from these murdered animals generate a very low profit, which have been declining over the recent years. Yet the trapping & hunting of those poor animals have not. For example AB killed 1,797 lynxes in 2017-2018. Can you believe that 1,797 lynxes, our ambassador animal for Canada on every wildlife magazine? Fur is a dying industry as people, especially millennials & generation Z are becoming more aware to the cruelty involved in the process. Not everyone can go & buy a $800 Canada goose jacket for which an animal died miserably. These wildlife are our national treasures and people from all over the world come to see them in Canada. Instead they are killed & their pelts are shipped off. In AB people's pets are also becoming victims to these indiscriminate traps & poisoning. We are calling for a complete ban of trapping, snaring & poisoning. They are barbaric, cruel, ruthless & archaic. These measurements do not belong to modern civilization. Please see the AB trapping guide, you will be shocked by the numbers. We cannot call ourselves modern humans if we continue these barbaric practices.

Trophy hunting of our native wildlife should be banned. The cruel blood sport of helpless animals does not belong in the modern society. Not just foxes, coyotes, wolves, lynxes, bobcats, bears, raccoons, wolverines & mountain lions but Canadian moose should also be protected. In MB moose have been wiped out by hunters & disease. Native predators are an important part of our ecosystem, they balance the role of predator & prey. They only prey for food & hunt on the old or diseased. Thus help the survival of the healthiest. A good example is the re introduction of wolves in Yellowstone. It not only brought back so many rare species of animals & birds, allowed forest to grow back by controlling deer population but also changed the course of the river over time. It's one of the greatest ecological successes of our lifetime. Every wild native animal have a role in the ecosystem and hunting and trapping them down in large numbers is destroying the balance of nature. The purpose of their life is not to become a fur trim on someone's jacket or so a trophy hunter can take a picture/selfie with their bloody corpse to share on facebook to look 'cool' or to brag about it. Trophy hunting is condemned by majority of populations & we have to ban trophy hunters from killing our beautiful wildlife to boost their egos. Trophy hunters are wiping off local predators so can get access to more deer, caribous & elk. This is one of the reasons for BC, AB & NWT targeting wolves by aerial shooting. They are promoting more human development, oil, gas & mining explorations in the name of saving Caribou on their habitat. Wolves became the scapegoat & are paying the price of industrialization with their blood.
"Acknowledged or not, those hunting carnivores today are hunting for status. They kill for trophy and attention. And the internet now provides a vast virtual audience to which to boast. Another simple but powerful explanation for why somebody would kill a wolf is simply because the province permits them to do so. Hunting regulations regarding wolves and other predators are embarrassingly out of step with societal values." - Globe & Mail, Western Canada, Feb 28/2020.
You can also play an important part to stop these activities. Please stop buying any fur products & raise awareness to your friends/family about the cruelty associated with these products. Helpless animals die a slow & painful death for fur. China is also one of the biggest importers of fur, where animals such as wolves, foxes, raccoon & raccoon dogs are butchered & often skinned alive. You can also enjoy making a vegetarian meal once a week to explore delicious vegetarian recipes. If each person did that it would make a big difference in total demand for meat. Industrial farming & cattle ranchers have large carbon footprint.
I want to make an example of BC grizzly bear ban, which generated 20 times more profit in tourism than the hunting of bears which attracted a very low number of hunters. The reintroduction of wolves in Yellowstone generates 35.5 million in profit annually. We need to protect our native wildlife now more than ever. They are a very important part of our ecosystem & help us fight climate change by balancing nature. We urge provincial Canadian governments to invest into tourism, climate change, education & healthcare instead of meaningless campaigns to wipe out wildlife & native predators. These animals represent Canada to the rest of the world & people from all over the world come to see them. Please ban trapping, poisoning & trophy hunting of our beautiful native wildlife & protect them instead. It will multiply our tourism revenue tenfold & build a healthy ecosystem.

"Although concealed under a smokescreen of scientific wildlife management, regulations that attempt to legitimize a behaviour so grossly misaligned with societal values ought to be challenged, and vigorously. This strategy was central to the eventual ban on the grizzly bear trophy hunt in B.C. With Takaya as our Cecil, this moment will come for wolves."- Globe & Mail, Western Canada, Feb 28/2020.
