During the current COVID-19 health emergency, Canada's health care workers are risking their health and possibly their lives, working to care for and provide critical medical assistance to so many Canadians, including those with life threatening complications from the virus.  They do so selflessly, at great risk to themselves, especially in light of often completely inadequate personal protective equipment.  The families of the brave health care workers are also put at risk, adding to their stress and anxiety.

No amount of money can compensate the health care workers for their bravery.  But given their working conditions, hours, stress, inadequate equipment and overwhelming demands, the least that can be provided is hazard pay and bonuses.  

All HC workers, doctors, nurses, et al, should also have adequate income replacement, life and health insurance for themselves and their families, should they fall ill.  Counselling and other supports must also be provided to our first line of medical defense against the insidious virus.
