Petition to the Government of Canada

We, the undersigned residents and citizens of Canada, draw the attention of the Government of Canada to the following:

Canada has provided substantial financial, military, humanitarian, and immigration support in response to international conflicts and crises, including Ukraine, Afghanistan, Syria, Sudan, and other regions.

Canada should act compassionately in the world, but the federal government’s first responsibility is to people in Canada. Canadians face serious pressures involving housing, health care, homelessness, veterans, seniors, infrastructure, public safety, and the cost of living.

We are concerned about open-ended foreign commitments without sufficient transparency regarding their cost, duration, national interest, or effect on Canada’s domestic capacity.

Therefore, we call upon the Government of Canada to:

1. Pause new financial and military assistance to Ukraine, except assistance required by binding treaty obligations, until Parliament completes a transparent review of Canada’s existing commitments.
2. Establish clear limits and parliamentary oversight for future foreign aid and overseas military commitments.
3. Ensure refugee and humanitarian programs reflect Canada’s housing, health-care, infrastructure, security-screening, and settlement capacity.
4. Prioritize federal resources for Canadians and people already living in Canada who need housing, health care, disability supports, veterans’ services, and essential public services.
5. Publish clear public accounting of major foreign-aid commitments and their costs.

Canada should remain compassionate and engaged internationally, but the Government of Canada must put the needs, security, and prosperity of its own people first.
