Do we really want a Dollar General in Our Historical-Designated Pine Street Community?

The Issue

Dollar General is proposing to open a box-chain store in the Historically-Designated Pine Street area in Cambridge, Maryland on intersecting High and Washington Street. Dollar General has tried unsuccessfully three separate times to operate a business in Cambridge, Maryland and suffered losses each time. They often carry high volume of product and do not have the ability to protect its assets from theft. The location of the previous Dollar General Store closed due to high losses from theft and mismanagement and the former location is still vacant.

A new Dollar General Store will destroy local small businesses that are currently operating and thriving. Yes, it my create about 5 jobs for the city, however it will hurt our community more than it will help. We need our small businesses and specialty shops. This proposed location will be located literally in the back yards and side yards of residents and on a very busy intersection of the community.

Luckily now we are at the stage where the Zoning Commission wants the community’s opinion. If you are against the Dollar General store being located on the corner of High Street and Washington Street please sign the petition and comment your reasons. If you ARE for the Dollar General to be developed do not sign the petition, however you can still comment why you are in favor of it. Again only sign the petition if you are NOT in support of the Dollar General to be developed on the corner of High Street and Washington Street and comment why you are NOT in support.
