Stop the Harm: Restore Dignity and Benefits to Arizona Families Wrongfully Cut Off Under Executive Order 14395

Across Arizona, families who are already fighting to survive are being pushed even deeper into crisis. Since the implementation of Executive Order 14395, thousands of our neighbors — parents, seniors, disabled adults, veterans, and children — are being wrongfully denied, cut off, or humiliated by an application system that is impossible to navigate and increasingly hostile to the poor.

This is not fraud prevention.
This is punishment for being poor.

The Reality No One Wants to Admit

People living in poverty often:

• struggle with transportation
• lack stable internet
• have limited access to printers, scanners, or computers
• face disabilities, trauma, or chronic stress
• cannot take time off work to chase paperwork

Yet the State of Arizona is demanding more proof than ever before — often irrelevant, invasive, or impossible to obtain.

Applicants are being told to:

• provide documents that do not exist
• explain personal hardships to strangers
• get written statements from third parties who have no connection to their finances
• disclose private struggles to people who have no right to know

This is a violation of privacy, dignity, and basic human rights.

A System Designed to Break People

Instead of helping families access food, healthcare, and shelter, Arizona is:

• demanding excessive documentation
• rejecting applications over minor errors
• freezing benefits without warning
• forcing people to “prove their innocence”
• using automated systems that flag innocent families as suspicious

And now, under EO 14395, the federal government has created a Task Force that expands surveillance, increases data‑sharing, and pressures states to crack down harder — even when the “crackdown” hurts the most vulnerable.

This Task Force is not protecting taxpayers.
It is deepening the divide between the rich and the poor, creating a system where low‑income families are treated as suspects instead of human beings.

This Is an Abuse of Authority

Arizona is overreaching its power by:

• demanding irrelevant or excessive proof
• violating privacy through unnecessary third‑party disclosures
• denying benefits before a human ever reviews the case
• allowing automated systems to decide who eats and who doesn’t

This is not how a just society treats its people.

We Demand Immediate Action

We call on the State of Arizona to:

1. Release the real numbers of how many people have been denied, cut off, or flagged since March 2026.
2. End invasive and irrelevant documentation demands, including third‑party statements that violate privacy.
3. Suspend automated denials until error rates and false positives are publicly reported.
4. Restore benefits immediately for anyone wrongfully flagged by identity‑matching systems.
5. Guarantee a human caseworker review before any termination of benefits.
6. Protect the dignity and privacy of every applicant, regardless of income.

No one should lose food, medical care, or housing because of:

• a computer glitch
• a mismatched database

• or a system designed without compassion
