Petition updateCalling on Vancouver- Quilchena MLA Dallas Brodie to resignWhat happened at UBC today

Today at UBC, around 1,000 members of our community came together and showed Dallas Brodie and her small band of denialists that they are not welcome here.

Some of us were there, and what we saw was students, neighbours, and other caring community members standing together peacefully and talking about how deplorable MLA Brodie's behaviour is. There were many people from our riding, which is right next door to UBC and where many members of the UBC community live.

Most people turned away from Brodie and the right-wing influencers who tagged along with her, and toward Indigenous students who were dancing, chanting, and encouraging people to move away from her.

A smaller group engaged, and eventually Brodie and her followers were removed from campus. Like everything she does, this was a huge waste of public resources.

We aren't sharing photos of the protest to avoid identifying people. Instead, here is the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre today, which was forced to close due to MLA Brodie's stunt.

She claims this is about truth and freedom, and she's being silenced.

The reality is that she's trying to silence the people who should most be speaking about these issues. Survivors and their families and loved ones.

We won't let that happen. In the words of Wade Grant, MP for Vancouver-Quadra (which includes our neighbourhood as well as UBC), these efforts are "harmful, unsupported, and unacceptable."
