Over the past few days, British Columbians have come together to mourn the victims of the tragic mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge. Dallas Brodie has spent this time travelling around BC's interior, boasting about the turnout at OneBC events.
While residents of our riding were donating to the kids airlifted to the Children's hospital at the edge of the riding and trying to figure out how to talk to our children about what happened... while the rest of the MLAs were gathering solemnly outside the BC Legislature in a moment of silence to honour the victims... Brodie was travelling from Sorrento to Penticton to Creston, filming herself smiling as she went.
On the 12th, the day the Legislature opened, she spoke in Creston. The first venue she booked cancelled due to her hate-filled platform. The second venue had more peaceful protestors outside than audience members inside. The Ktunaxa Nation strongly denounced her appearance and views.
In the past few days, Brodie's social media accounts have:
- 6 self-promotional posts about the size of her turnouts and "protecting our heritage"
- 1 anti-trans post, disguised as a post supporting the Tumbler Ridge community
- 3 anti-Indigenous posts
- 1 post supporting Tumbler Ridge
She's been absent from the riding, holding no public events since she was elected.
She's absent from the legislature, including on a day when the focus should have been supporting each other.
We are deeply sorry to the people of Tumbler Ridge and the trans community that our MLA is using this moment to spread hate for her own political and financial benefit. And we stand with the Ktunaxa Nation and all people showing up at her events to say that what she's doing is "nonsense... harmful, disrespectful and unacceptable.”
It's time for people in BC to stop paying her salary. A recall is coming. Stay tuned.
