In 2020, the lives of 18 families in County Cork and other jurisdictions were changed forever. They were informed that their babies' organs were incinerated along with Clinical Waste in Belgium from Cork University Maternity Hospital without their knowledge or consent. This tragedy brought forth the need to publish legislation to prevent this from ever happening again. There has been a continuous discussion around the necessity of publishing the Human Tissues Bill to ensure that a tragedy like the one that occurred 2020 will never happen again. The Minister for Health , in 2021, promised that the bill would be published by the end of the year. However, it never was. Recently, when pressed about the issue again, the minister for Health said that the Bill would be published by the end of the Oireachtas term. It is time that this vital piece of legislation is published. The families deserve closure and security to ensure that this never happens Again.
