Calling for a change in laws, an inquiry & punishment for beating a pregnant dog to death.
The Issue
A pregnant dog was beat to death in Don Bosco Technical Institute in Delhi. They hit her with hockey sticks and dragged her across the campus while she whimpered in pain. Ample proof of the same has been posted and shared all across social media in the form of videos and photos. The dog was innocent and hadn't harmed anyone. She ended up succumbing to her injuries thereafter.
The first piece of evidence shows a group of male students blocking the terrified dogs path out from inside a tin shed on the institute's grounds. Later in the video a student enters the door with a rod in his hand post the other students encouragement. Other videos show the dog being dragged across campus post beating. There are also pictures and videos of the dog struggling and breathing her last.
The initial police complaint also alleged that two brothers who work at the institution were present at the scene of the crime after being ordered to do so by the administration.
Where is this cruelty to animals taking us? In a civilised society, such behaviour is a shame and letting any person involved in this incident go free reflects on us and our authorities. With all the animal safety laws in place, we urge the authorities to take up strict action against such behaviour and further make stricter laws for compliance.
We need the DCP, the CP and lawmakers to take this as seriously as possible. As of now, the culprits were arrested based on a complaint registered that led to an FIR being filed under Sections 429 and 34 of the IPC, but we also need a serious inquiry into the administration to get to the heart of the matter and to know for sure if the institute was aware of what was about to happen and whether they had a part to play. And to reiterate, we also badly need the laws to change and be made stricter to prevent such incidents in the future.
