Call to Action: National Public Inquiry Throughout Canadian Amateur Boxing
This petition calls for a National Public Inquiry into systemic governance failures, maltreatment, and potential corruption throughout Boxing Canada and its affiliated provincial governing bodies.
For many years, Boxing Canada and its provincial affiliates have faced persistent allegations of favoritism, negligence, biases, maltreatment, and serious governance concerns. Despite the seriousness and volume of these complaints, no comprehensive national public inquiry has ever been launched, and questions have been raised surrounding the transparency, independence, and effectiveness of existing oversight mechanisms.
These unresolved issues continue to affect athletes, coaches, officials, clubs, and communities across Canada who rely on the sport and safe, fair, accountable governance. A transparent, independent public inquiry is urgently needed to properly examine systemic practices, restore trust in members and taxpayers, and bring true change and accountability.
Purpose of the inquiry:
A National Public Inquiry would provide a secure and credible forum for athletes, families, coaches, officials, and other stakeholders from across Canada to present evidence, share firsthand experiences, and raise concerns without fear of retaliation or reprisal. It must be conducted by genuinely independent and trustworthy parties, with the authority to examine governance structures, complaint-handling processes, oversight mechanisms, and the actions or inactions of those in positions of authority.
Such an inquiry should include a thorough examination of documented incidents and verifiable evidence related to systemic governance failures, organizational negligence, maltreatment, and potential corruption. This level of scrutiny is essential to achieving transparency, identifying accountability gaps, and implementing meaningful, long-term reforms that strengthen participant safety and ethical governance in Canadian amateur boxing.
Why your support matters:
This petition seeks to reach 500 or more signatures from Canadian citizens — the minimum threshold required to advance a federal House of Commons e-petition with the support of a sponsoring Member of Parliament. Reaching this milestone helps elevate the issue to the federal level and reinforces the principle that publicly funded sport must be governed responsibly and fairly.
By signing or sharing this petition, you support the creation of a credible and protected process for those affected to be heard, and you help push for reforms that benefit current and future participants in the sport.
What this inquiry is — and is not:
This does NOT mean that all those involved are guilty or that all members are at risk. The purpose is not to shame, scare, or target indiscriminately, but to bring transparency to long-standing concerns, ensure fairness for all members, and protect participants from maltreatment and retaliation.
Our goal is to promote a more trustworthy, fair, and prosperous future for Canadian amateur boxing.
