We need your voice! Please log on to the Zoom meeting and speak during the public comment period to oppose the proposed seizure of Butzel Park land for a new apartment building.
Key Concerns to Address at the Meeting
Traffic Congestion and Safety Hazards (Opposition to Project Location):
The development will severely exacerbate existing traffic issues, creating dangerous conditions. Kercheval Avenue is already a hazardous road for drivers exiting the Butzel parking lot, the Sheridan and Kercheval Gas Station, and Townsend Street. Increased congestion will make the area around Marcus Garvey Academy more dangerous for school children and seniors.
Preservation of Public Green Space and Parking (Opposition to Land Use):
The community must push to protect this valuable park land and the existing public parking, which is essential for community use at the Butzel Family Center and Marcus Garvey Academy.
Affordability:
While we need housing, it must be truly affordable for the community. The development must commit to the deepest levels of affordability (30-50% AMI) to genuinely help combat poverty and prevent long-time residents from being displaced.
