Call on Reform to keep their word! - Proportional representation for the UK

The issue

An open letter and petition to Reform UK

Why is our party now completely betraying its members and voters by abandoning the policy of proportional representation, which we took to the British people in the election just last year, in our 'Contract' with them?

The reason we didn't call our election policies a 'manifesto' is because this word is better understood to mean 'lies' - thanks to our establishment political parties.

But when the Reform UK party chairman, Zia Yusuf, was recently asked at an event in London if Reform UK still supports proportional representation, he responded that 'we are firmly in favour of first past the post'! Does our party only support it when it benfits us?

The different name clearly made no difference at all. We are breaking our Contract with the British people, when we expressly told them we would not.

Proportional representation is by far the most popular voting system in the UK. As of January 2025, the number of Britons who support proportional representation is double the number first-past-the-post supporters.  (https://yougov.co.uk/topics/politics/trackers/should-we-change-our-current-british-voting-system

I and so many others were hoping for a genuine people's party in Reform UK. One that speaks with conviction, says what it means, and acts on it - regardless of the political winds of the day. One that doesn't just say things to get elected and then change its mind when it no longer suits.

We are becoming just like the establishment parties we are so sick of.

This movement is not be about Reform. It is about our country. If you really believe in democracy and the British people, you will let Brits get what they vote for, even if you now benefit from the two-party system you once so stridently opposed.

We, the signatories of this petition, call on Reform UK to keep its word and back proportional representation for our country!
