We have an opportunity right now to move clean energy legislation in both the House and Senate. These bills will establish a 25 percent renewable electricity standard by 2025 and a national energy efficiency standard (EERS) that will improve efficiency by 15 percent for electricity and 10 percent for natural gas. Passing this legislation will establish strong standards for renewable energy and energy efficiency that will create jobs and reduce global warming pollution.

Dear [Decision Maker],

America needs a national renewable electricity standard (RES) and national energy efficiency standard (EERS) that will boost our economy and help us meet the challenge of global warming. By significantly increasing our use of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies, an RES and EERS will create clean energy jobs, save consumers and businesses money, and make America a world leader in the new energy economy.

I urge you to support legislation introduced by Representatives Markey (D-MA) and Platts (D-PA) and Senators Tom Udall (D-NM) and Mark Udall (D-CO) to establish a 25 percent by 2025 RES. I also ask you to support legislation introduced by Sen. Schumer (D-NY) and Representative Markey that will establish an EERS to improve efficiency by 15 percent for electricity and 10 percent for natural gas.


Both the RES and EERS will create hundreds of thousands of new jobs and drive investment in the new American energy economy. Many of these green jobs such as building wind turbines, installing solar panels, and renovating buildings to make them more energy efficient, are jobs that can't be outsourced and can make America a world leader in the clean energy economy. Clean energy jobs can put people back to work by revitalizing the manufacturing and construction sectors that have been hit hard the economic downturn. Furthermore renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies are the cheapest and fastest way to reduce global warming pollution.
