The Issue

I own property near a proposed site for a new data center in Washington County, specifically in the city of Brenham. The concern and apprehension stemming from this project have left me and other members of our community looking for support and seeking answers. I am reaching out to fellow residents, stakeholders, and those who cherish the unique character and environment of our county to stand collectively.

The introduction of a massive data center poses multiple challenges to our community. These facilities consume vast amounts of electricity and water, potentially straining local resources that could otherwise benefit residential and agricultural use. Furthermore, they can contribute to urban heat islands, disrupting local climates and affecting agriculture, which many of Brenham's residents rely on.

Noise and light pollution from ongoing construction and 24/7 operations could also disrupt our peace and impact wildlife habitats in ways that haven't been fully examined. Increased traffic from trucks and workers during construction will add pressure to our existing roadways, compounding issues for local commuters and creating safety hazards for pedestrians.

Moreover, the presence of a large corporate data center could lead to increased land prices, which might affect the affordability of living in Brenham. This socioeconomic impact could displace community members and alter the social fabric of our region.

I am urging the city council to impose a moratorium on any data center development until comprehensive impact studies are conducted. These should include environmental assessments, noise and light studies, and infrastructure evaluations to understand how such a project will affect our vital resources, environment, and community lifestyle.

By putting a temporary halt on these developments, we can ensure that all voices in our community are heard and considered. Our shared goal should be to balance technological progress with preservation, ensuring the long-term sustainability of Brenham for future generations.

Please join me in urging our local government to take a thoughtful pause by signing this petition. Together, let's protect our community's resources and way of life.
