Call for transparency in New Mexico's film industry
The Issue
As a dedicated member of New Mexico's film community, I feel both pride and concern as I watch our industry continue to grow and attract national attention. While headlines often celebrate new productions, studio expansions, and investment in our state, many local actors, crew members, and filmmakers continue to struggle to find consistent employment. This petition is not about criticizing the progress New Mexico has made. It is about ensuring greater transparency between the success being reported and the day-to-day reality experienced by many working professionals.
New Mexico has earned its reputation as a major production hub, and we want that success to continue. However, the people who make this industry possible deserve a clearer understanding of how that growth translates into real employment opportunities. Greater transparency surrounding production activity, local hiring, workforce trends, and employment data would help industry professionals make informed decisions about their careers and futures.
We respectfully call upon the New Mexico Film Office, state leaders, and industry stakeholders to provide more transparent reporting about the health of our workforce while continuing to attract sustainable, year-round film and television production. Transparency is not about placing blame; it is about building trust, strengthening our industry, and ensuring that the experiences of New Mexico's film professionals are accurately represented alongside the positive headlines.
If you are a member of New Mexico's film community—or simply believe in honest communication and a thriving local workforce—we ask you to sign this petition and share your own experience in the comments. Together, we can advocate for a stronger, more transparent, and more sustainable future for New Mexico's film industry.
