Call for swift action in Hamtramck election fraud cases

The Issue

Update:

Hamtramck City Clerk Rana Faraj has joined the cause.

City Clerk's letter to Attorney General

We are disheartened residents, business owners, and stakeholders of Hamtramck, who have suffered from the alleged unlawful actions of councilmen Mohamed Hassan and Muhtasin Sadman. Our right to a representative government has been usurped because of their efforts to place a finger on the scale of our election. This is particularly disgraceful, considering the diverse demographic makeup of our city. For many members of our community—often arriving here from different parts of the world—it taints their first impression of our cherished democracy.

We appeal to Assistant Attorney General Alexandra Peterson to expedite the prosecution in these particular cases and seek severe sentences, setting a firm example and cautioning others against undermining our democratic process. The average sentence for voter fraud nationwide in the United States stands between 5 to 10 years, indicating the solemnity of this crime (National Conference of State legislatures, 2020). Thus, both councilmen should face stringent penalties if found guilty.

By doing so, we aim to fortify our democracy, restore the faith of our community in our electoral system, and ensure that such shameful misconduct does not occur in the future. With this petition, we express our steadfast commitment to safeguard our city and keep our democracy intact. Take a stance with us today, and endorse this call for justice. Sign this petition in support of a swift and strong action against voter fraud.
