The Issue

Those of us who live here love this little pocket of green space and peaceful living. Recent proposals to rezone annexed properties on Hague Avenue have asked for far higher densities than the area is prepared to absorb. The proposed project at 1753 N. Hague Avenue would allow Metropolitan Holdings Acquisitions LLC to build a 296-unit apartment complex on this 15-acre piece of heavily-forested land, making it an inappropriate use of this site.

Residents have opposed the development proposal for its inconsistency with the neighborhood character. The residents on Britton Avenue, who mostly live in spaced-out 1- and 2-story houses, will have an increasingly difficult time with this development, due to the recent rezoning across the street from them for the Upland high-density apartment residential development. If this proposal was approved, they would be sandwiched between 3-story apartment buildings. We have asked for a reduced density and a two-story maximum building height in this area.

Residents have opposed the development proposal at 1753 N. Hague Avenue for its destruction to the environment, including the affects on the local watershed and increasing stormwater run-off into a local sandy tributary of the Scioto River. Local wildlife, which many of us cherish, would also face displacement and habitat destruction.

We request this proposal be rejected. What happens on this parcel will spell out the future of Hague Avenue between Chippewa and Trabue. It's the precedent the next developer will point to. It's essential that decisions which regard our community are made with consideration for those who actually live here and will be directly affected. Residents in this community recognize that development is needed, and we are ready to work with the city to find the right solution to housing in our neighborhood.
