Call for Real Solutions to Violent Crime—Not Punitive Measures Against Law-Abiding Firearms Owners

To: Premier David Eby and the Government of British Columbia

Will our Premier stand with law-abiding British Columbians?

Across Canada, several provincial leaders have begun pushing back against the federal Liberal government’s firearm confiscation scheme—recognizing that it unfairly targets responsible, licensed firearms owners while doing nothing to address the real sources of violent crime. Premiers in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario have publicly called for practical, evidence-based solutions that actually improve public safety rather than relying on failed policies and political distractions.

British Columbia is facing a serious and growing crisis when it comes to violent crime. Increasingly, these crimes are being committed using unlicensed, illegally smuggled, and 3D-printed firearms—not firearms legally owned by trained, vetted, and responsible citizens. Despite this reality, current federal measures continue to focus on confiscating legally obtained firearms from people who already follow the law.

This approach does not make our communities safer.

Law-abiding firearms owners in British Columbia undergo background checks, licensing, training, and continuous eligibility screening. They are not the source of gun violence. Yet they are being unfairly blamed and penalized while the real problems—organized crime, border smuggling, repeat violent offenders, and illegal gun manufacturing—go inadequately addressed.

We ask Premier David Eby and the Government of British Columbia:

Will you stand with responsible, law-abiding British Columbians, as other provinces have done?
Will you reject participation in a federal firearm confiscation scheme that targets the wrong people and diverts resources away from real public safety solutions?
Will you advocate for policies that focus on criminal misuse of firearms, stronger action against illegal gun trafficking, meaningful bail and sentencing reform, and improved mental health and community safety supports?
We also call upon the people of British Columbia—regardless of political affiliation—to stand together in defense of fairness, public safety, and responsible governance. Public awareness, respectful dialogue, and civic participation are essential to ensuring our voices are heard.

If our concerns continue to be dismissed or ignored, we reserve the right to engage in lawful, peaceful public assembly, including the organization of a peaceful protest at a date and time to be determined, in accordance with Canadian law. This is not a call for division, but a commitment to democratic participation and accountability.

British Columbians deserve leadership that prioritizes results over rhetoric. We deserve solutions that actually keep our streets safe—not policies that punish responsible citizens while criminals continue to operate unchecked.

We, the undersigned residents of British Columbia, respectfully call on our provincial government to oppose ineffective federal firearm confiscation measures and to push for real, evidence-based solutions that protect our communities and respect law-abiding citizens.

Signed,
Concerned Citizens of British Columbia
