Call for Legal Action Against Systemic Abuse at Upstate Correctional Facility

Call for Legal Action Against Systemic Abuse at Upstate Correctional Facility
The Issue
Families, formerly incarcerated individuals, and concerned community members are calling for an immediate investigation into ongoing unlawful and inhumane practices occurring at Upstate Correctional Facility and throughout the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision system.
Numerous reports describe patterns of retaliation, excessive punishment, denial of medical and mental health care, unlawful confinement conditions, destruction and withholding of personal property, suppression of grievances, visitation retaliation against families, abuse of disciplinary procedures, and treatment that may violate constitutional and human rights protections.
Families have reported that incarcerated individuals are frequently placed in extreme isolation, denied rehabilitative opportunities, transferred without proper notice, deprived of communication with loved ones, and punished for speaking out or filing complaints. Many individuals fear retaliation if they report abuse internally.
Recent incidents and testimonies have intensified public concern regarding conditions inside Upstate Correctional Facility, including allegations of neglect, intimidation, unsafe living conditions, and failures of accountability within the prison system. Families are demanding transparency, independent oversight, and immediate intervention before more lives are harmed.
This petition seeks:
An independent investigation into alleged abuse and unlawful practices
Public accountability from DOCCS leadership and facility administration
Protection for incarcerated individuals and families from retaliation
Review of disciplinary and solitary confinement practices
Access to adequate medical and mental health care
Preservation of grievance rights and legal communication
Attention from civil rights organizations and law offices willing to review evidence for potential class action litigation
We are calling on civil rights attorneys, advocacy organizations, elected officials, journalists, and the public to stand with affected families and help expose systemic misconduct occurring behind prison walls.
Incarceration should never mean abuse, neglect, or the loss of basic human dignity.
Silence protects systems. Public pressure creates change.
Signing this petition shows the concerns in not just word of mouth, but NUMBERS!
