Call for Leadership Change at Miss Grand Thailand & Miss Grand International

The issue

Miss Grand Thailand and Miss Grand International present themselves as platforms that celebrate confidence, dignity, and empowerment of women. These values are the reason many Thai and international fans have supported these pageants for years.

However, over a prolonged period, repeated public behaviour and statements by Mr. Nawat Itsaragrisil, the head of Miss Grand Thailand and Miss Grand International, have caused widespread concern, distress, and disappointment among fans and supporters worldwide.

These concerns are not based on a single incident, but on a pattern of publicly documented conduct spanning several years:

  • 2016: Miss Iceland 2015, Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir, publicly reported that Mr. Nawat told her she was “too fat” and needed to lose weight. This statement sparked international backlash and raised early concerns regarding body shaming within the organisation.
  • 2022: During a live stream, Mr. Nawat publicly stated that Miss Vietnam had “too long a torso and too short legs”, explaining this as the reason she failed to place in the Top 10. Many viewers perceived this as inappropriate and demeaning commentary on a contestant’s body.
  • 2025: Mr. Nawat publicly body-shamed Rachel Gupta, the winner of Miss Grand International 2024, through an Instagram post following her announcement that she would step down from her role. This incident deeply upset fans who expected dignity and support for a reigning international titleholder.
  • November 2025: Mr. Nawat publicly insulted Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch—who later went on to win Miss Universe 2025—by referring to her as a “dumb head.” This comment was widely criticised as disrespectful and unprofessional.
  • December 2025 – Charlotte Austin Birthday Event: Many fans were deeply troubled by Mr. Nawat’s behaviour toward Charlotte Austin during her birthday event. What should have been a celebratory and respectful occasion for a titleholder was perceived by viewers as uncomfortable and inappropriate, reinforcing ongoing concerns about public treatment, boundaries, and the misuse of authority within the organisation.

In addition, many supporters were distressed by Mr. Nawat’s public treatment of the Miss Grand International 2024 winner from Mexico, which further intensified concerns regarding professionalism and respect toward titleholders.

As supporters of these pageants, we believe that women who represent international organisations should be treated with professionalism, respect, and care. Leadership within a global women’s platform must model emotional maturity, accountability, and respect—especially in public forums. When leadership instead appears to normalise public shaming, insults, or degrading commentary, it undermines both the contestants and the credibility of the organisation itself.

This petition is not driven by hate or malice. It is driven by concern, disappointment, and a desire for meaningful change.
We respectfully call for:

  • The removal of Mr. Nawat Itsaragrisil from his leadership role within Miss Grand Thailand and Miss Grand International
  • The appointment of new leadership that demonstrates respect, professionalism, and genuine support for women
  • The implementation of clear standards of conduct to protect contestants from public humiliation and abuse of power

Miss Grand has the potential to be a truly empowering global platform. For that to be realised, its leadership must reflect the values it claims to uphold.
We urge Miss Grand Organisation stakeholders to listen to the voices of fans around the world and take meaningful action.
