Call for Immediate Resignation and Investigation of Narang Bir-rong Leadership & Board

The issue

Narang Bir-rong, an Aboriginal controlled Out of Home Care (OOHC) organisation, has the crucial task of providing care to vulnerable Aboriginal children. This cause stands deeply personal to me and the wider community who entrust Narang Bir-rong with the well-being of these children.

Shockingly, information has emerged that prompts grave concerns about the organisation’s conduct and its impact on staff and the children in its care. Alarmingly, evidence points towards a dysfunctional board and allegations of misuse of public funds. This poses critical risks of jeopardizing the crucial support provided to Aboriginal children at risk.

Furthermore, there have been worrying signs of an unsafe environment for the workforce and claims of malpractice by the CEO. This includes multiple work cover claims, allegations of a sexualised workplace, and evidence of alcohol misuse during work hours. All these claims suggest a potential breach of fundamental employment and safety standards.

We urgently request for CEO Heidi Bradshaw, the Leadership Team, and Board of Narang Bir-rong to stand down effective immediately. This crisis calls for a thorough investigation led by the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), Office of the Children's Guardian (OCG), and the Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations (ORIC).

Only through such actions can we ensure transparency, secure the safety and rights of staff and Aboriginal children under the care of Narang Bir-rong, and restore faith in Aboriginal community-controlled organisations.

Please, sign this petition to demand immediate change and justice. Your support can make a difference, standing as the voice for the vulnerable who need us most.
