Call for Immediate Action: Remove Dade City Manager Mrs. Porter
The Issue
To the Dade City Commission,
We, the concerned citizens of Dade City, are calling for the immediate removal of our current City Manager, Mrs. Porter. This petition is born out of numerous instances of mismanagement and neglect that have negatively impacted the budget, function and morale of our city, the city’s staff and operations.
After attending the recent workshop that followed Mrs. Porter's evaluation, it has become undeniably clear that significant changes are necessary for the betterment of our community. The following critical issues have been observed:
- Exposure to Legal Risks: Mrs. Porter has exposed the city to multiple lawsuits, creating a substantial liability that demands immediate accountability.
- Staff Morale and Treatment: The morale among city staff is at an all-time low. The leniency shown towards Mrs. Porter's performance starkly contrasts with the treatment of multiple former staff members.
- Neglect of Established Protocols: Protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been ignored or not utilized for the past five years, leading to inefficiencies and embarrassment for our city.
- Poor Communication: A persistent lack of communication has created significant inefficiencies, jeopardizing potential grants and legislative support that could greatly benefit our community.
- Unprofessional Absences: Mrs. Porter's frequent, uncommunicated absences set a poor example for the staff and hinder the city's operations.
- The micromanaging of city finance/budget needs has created a gap in overall city management. Mrs. Porter has failed to 'leave' her former responsibilities in the hands of the current city CFO and has taken valuable time away from her current duties and obligations.
The workshop revealed that instead of addressing these severe issues directly, time was wasted on discussing new workflow software and accountability measures. These are mere band-aids for a problem that requires a more decisive and immediate solution.
While Mrs. Porter may have excelled in her previous role in finance, her tenure as City Manager has highlighted significant weaknesses that are long overdue for addressing. We urge every seated commissioner to act decisively and promptly for the future of Dade City.
We, the signers of this petition, call on the Dade City Commission to take immediate action to remove Mrs. Porter from her position as City Manager. It is time for our city to be led by someone who can meet the demands of the role, ensure efficient operations, and foster a positive working environment for all city staff.
