John Lavoie, the current superintendent of Greater Lawrence Technical School, has a salary of $337,000 and an annual increase of $28,000 every year. Despite this pay raise, Lavoie has done nothing to address the school climate, and now students don't even feel safe at what should be a "safe learning environment". He didn't even let a member of the district committee, a committee he reports to look at his contract, putting so much red tape all because it was "public knowledge".

This past month alone saw a firing of teachers, some of which alledgedly groomed students. There was an incident where a student mass groped people, and what did Discipline do? They offered to have him switch schedules.  Lavoie has promised and promised to report to the committee and be transparent, but we've seen this song and dance and are tired of these false promises. If Lavoie stays, these concerns will fall on deaf ears, and nothing will change.

But there is a chance, and that is now. Lavoie's contract is currently being re-evaluated, and if we students, teachers and families make our voices heard, real change will finally happen. The terms are Lavoie should either release the full details of his contract to the public or resign. If he's on his word about transparency, he should preach it or at the least hold meeting so students and families can say their dues. Us Reggies Expect more, Demand more, and Achieve More. We should put Lavoie to those same standards.
