Call for full resurfacing of Playhatch Road (B478) by Oxfordshire County Council

Call for full resurfacing of Playhatch Road (B478) by Oxfordshire County Council
The Issue
The Playhatch Road (B478) from Playhatch roundabout via Sonning Eye to Sonning Bridge in Oxfordshire, has tragically been neglected for too long. Reports to the council go ignored month after month, year after year. As a road user, I have personally witnessed and experienced the damage this road is causing to vehicles and the inherent danger it presents to drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists alike. Danger increases at night and during rainfall when the poor condition of the road becomes a significant hazard.
The state of this key route is not just an inconvenience; it's a ticking time bomb for serious accidents. Potholes, crumbling surfaces, and uneven patches make navigation a daily gamble for everyone. The evidence of neglect is undeniable—not just short-term wear but years of underinvestment that now demand urgent attention.
Statistics and reports indicate that roads in poor condition increase the likelihood of accidents, vehicle damage, and pose profound safety risks. Local communities, businesses, and commuters are bearing the brunt of this persistent oversight. It's time for Oxfordshire County Council to demonstrate accountability and take immediate action.
They oppose a Third Bridge supported by neighbouring councils Reading Borough Council and Wokingham Borough Council. If they don't want to partly fund ta new bridge to alleviate congestion and increase connectivity to all three areas, the least they can do is maintain existing roads and take reports seriously.
A patch-up approach is not sufficient. We call for full resurfacing of the entire stretch of the B478 from Playhatch roundabout to Sonning Bridge. This means no temporary fixes, but a complete overhaul to ensure a safe, durable, and reliable road infrastructure for all users.
Let's remind the Council that investing in road infrastructure is investing in community safety and economic stability. Safe roads are pivotal for fostering growth and safeguarding our beloved communities. Current conditions jeopardise our everyday safety and damage vehicles and bikes.
I urge you to join me in calling for this critical infrastructure improvement. Sign this petition to demand Oxfordshire County Council prioritise the full resurfacing of the B478. Your support could make the essential difference and ensure our roads are safe and smooth. Let's act now to protect ourselves and our community!
