Call for Ceasefire in Palestine by Arizona Healthcare Providers
The Issue
Subject: Urgent Call for Ceasefire in Palestine to Safeguard Medical Facilities and Lives
Dear Governor Hobbs, Senator Kelly, and Senator Sinema:
We are writing this letter on behalf of the dedicated medical providers, including physicians, residents, nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants in Arizona who are deeply concerned about the escalating situation in Palestine. We urge you to take immediate and decisive action to address the repeated war crimes that are being conducted which pose an immediate threat to the lives of innocent civilians and further jeopardize the already strained healthcare infrastructure. We are all bearing witness to gross violations of human rights and human safety, whether through personal relationships or despicable images coming from the ground. Through this letter, we hope to emphasize the need and accessibility of adequate healthcare to those who need it most in Palestine.
The repeated bombing of hospitals and medical facilities is not only a violation of international law but also a direct attack on the sanctity of human life. These actions not only put the lives of patients at risk but also undermine the fundamental principles of medical neutrality that are crucial for the provision of healthcare in times of conflict.
Of grave concern is the deliberate targeting of vulnerable patients, including the elderly, those with chronic illnesses, disabled individuals, and children. The loss of all innocent lives, especially children, is a tragedy that leaves an indelible mark on the conscience of humanity. Medical providers on the ground are witnessing the devastating impact of these actions firsthand, with many struggling to provide essential care amid the chaos as described by the respected organization Médecins Sans Frontières, or commonly known as Doctors Without Borders.
Furthermore, we strongly condemn the restrictions placed on humanitarian aid reaching medical facilities and the people of Gaza. Access to medical supplies, equipment, and personnel is vital for addressing the immediate health needs of the population. The denial of such aid exacerbates the suffering of the people and severely hampers the ability of healthcare providers to carry out their duties.
It is our collective moral duty to protect the lives of civilians, preserve the sanctity of medical facilities, and ensure unimpeded access to humanitarian aid. We implore you to use your influence to advocate for an immediate ceasefire, allowing for the safe passage of medical personnel and supplies to affected areas. Only through diplomacy, dialogue, and a commitment to peace can we hope to end the cycle of violence and massacre of the Palestinian people.
With the heaviest of hearts,
