As a student/parent of a student at Castleberry High School, I encounter the same discomfort every day in Science class—chairs that are too high for the tables. This mismatch causes unnecessary pain and distraction, making it difficult to focus on the exciting subjects we are eager to learn. Like me, many students find it hard to concentrate when they are physically uncomfortable, hunched over desks, with legs dangling awkwardly.

Studies from the Journal of Ergonomics have shown that poorly designed seating arrangements can lead to back pain and long-term musculoskeletal issues among students. When chairs don't fit the ergonomic needs of learners, it not only affects their physical health but also has a significant impact on their academic performance and overall well-being.

We are privileged to learn in a district known for valuing education, yet our seating does not reflect the care and attention we receive in other aspects of our learning environment. Schools across the nation have updated their educational spaces to meet modern ergonomic standards to improve student comfort and learning outcomes. According to a Harvard study, students learn better and are more focused in environments where they physically feel good.

Our goal with this petition is to prompt the administration at Castleberry High School to prioritize upgrading our classroom furniture, starting with the Science rooms. We propose a shift to ergonomically designed chairs and tables that cater to students' needs, reducing discomfort and promoting better posture. By doing so, we would not only alleviate physical pain but also facilitate an environment more conducive to learning and creativity.

We urge the Castleberry High School administration to take speedy action on this initiative. By reallocating a modest portion of the budget or seeking grants designed for educational improvements, we can ensure that current and future students no longer face these daily struggles and can fully concentrate on their studies.
