Call for an Evaluation of Hungary's EU Membership Status due to Democracy Concerns

The Issue

I, a deeply concerned European Union citizen, am raising this petition to request a thorough evaluation of Hungary's EU membership status based on major concerns that affect the essence of the Union's principles.

Hungary's consistently alarming drift away from democratic norms, progressive rights, and EU principles poses a serious problem. Independent reports reflect high levels of political influence on public media and judiciary, accompanied by an opaque government decision-making process. Hungary, once a beacon of transition towards democracy after the collapse of the Soviet Union, now presents challenges to the integrity of democratic governance in Europe.

Moreover, the escalating Russian influence in Hungary exacerbates these concerns. Given the encompassing values and objectives of the European Union, the increasingly evident geopolitical leaning of Hungary towards Russia is disturbinging and conflicts directly with the goal of a united, independent Europe.

Further, Hungary's repeated use of its veto power to block EU decisions, particularly those aimed at enhancing EU security and peace, is both a show of unilateral imbalance and an obstruction to collective progress. The will of an overwhelming majority of member states cannot be held hostage to one nation's vetoes, especially when that nation is seen as an extension of external influences threatening European unity.

This petition therefore beseeches the European Union to conduct a comprehensive review of Hungary's EU membership, taking into account its deviation from European democratic standards, its increasingly strong ties with Russia, and its disproportionate use of veto power in ways that thwart collective European decisions.

We urge all conscious global citizens and EU members that believe in the power of democracy and the strength of a united Europe to support this petition. Your voice will help restore the EU to its core values, ensure security, peace, and balance within the Union. Please sign and share this petition.
