The Calistoga Parks & Recreation Department's stated mission is "to make life better for all residents by offering a variety of indoor and outdoor facilities and activities that promote health, fitness, education, cultural awareness, sportsmanship, family interaction and appreciation of our surroundings." There is no better example of success in achieving that mission for residents and guests of all ages than the popular program activities at the Calistoga Community Pool.

At every stage of life, water exercises, sports, or therapies are healthy, relevant, life-enhancing and sometimes lifesaving activities. The beneficiaries of excellent aquatic activities at the Calistoga Community Pool are toddlers and young children learning how to safely swim, all ages enjoying water aerobics, lap swimming, and rec swimming; and Red Cross certification training for lifeguards and pool managers.

However, Calistoga Community Pool programs are not available year-round. Historically, the pool at Logvy Park has only been open from Spring to Fall. Unfortunately, this leaves hundreds unable to maintain pool-based activities that bring new skills, good health, and pure joy year-round, unless they travel to St. Helena or Santa Rosa.

This petition to Calistoga City leaders is a respectful request to allocate the resources in the next budget cycle to keep the pool programs running year-round. This is an acknowledged objective in the City's 2021-2022 General Plan, “Goal 4: Expand and improve recreational facilities – Objective 6. Develop a plan to achieve year-round use of the Community Pool.”

In a community like ours, as blessed as we are with such a beautiful environment, and a vibrant, diverse population, it's time to ensure the social equity of making this valuable resource available through-out the entire year.
