Ban the sale of non-reusable, plastic water bottles smaller than 1 liter

Ban the sale of non-reusable, plastic water bottles smaller than 1 liter
The Issue
Non-reusable, PET plastic water bottles are a meanace to not only our environment, but also the public's health. These water bottles contain antimony, which leads to dizziness, depression, and in some cases, death. They also contain bisphenol A, which is linked to diabetes, obesity, and cancer.
Every year, 38,000,000 water bottles are discarded into landfills. It can take as long as 1,000 years for these bottles to decompose. That is far too long and detrimental to our environment.
We propose that polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles, which have the number 1 and/or PETE with the recycling symbol on the bottle are no longer allowed to be sold if they are less than 1 liter (34 ounces) and contain water which is non-sparkling and non-flavored. The sale of water in bottles made of other types of plastic is allowed. Bottles of flavored water, regardless of size, may be sold. The sale of cases of small (<1 liter) bottles of water is prohibited. Bottled water less than 1 liter in volume may not be sold in vending machines. Bottled water less than 1 liter in volume may not be sold at civic events including but not limited to sports events, road races, festivals, theater performances and catered events. Water may be offered for free to patrons in any form.
This will not only save our generation, but future generations as well. Take a stand and help save our environment, and our public.
