California does not have a law that prosecutes people who knowingly infect others with HIV. We need a law, we need justice!!
The Issue
January 2013 I found out I am HIV +, my then boyfriend knowingly infected me. I filed a police report and after much back and forth I was told by the San Francisco DA that the state of California does NOT prosecute people who knowingly expose/infect others with HIV, unless intent to infect is proven, and simply having unprotected sex and NOT disclosing your HIV + status is not enough to prosecute someone. Even IF intent is proven, like the San Diego case, the law only sees it as a misdemeanor, and NOT a felony, 32 US states do see this as a felony, but NOT California. Knowingly exposing and/or infecting someone with HIV should be a felony and punishable by law, I need justice, other victims of the same crime need justice, please help me by signing this petition and sharing it with everyone you know, together, we CAN make a difference.
