Keep off-campus activities part of Week of Welcome

Starting WOW 2012, wow leaders are no longer allowed to take wowies off campus except for volunteering at Day of Service. That means no hiking Bishops, no kayaking, no beach, no downtown, and no to anything else we loved doing off-campus during WOW.
The Cal Poly President and Vice President of student affairs have decided to shift off-campus activities for incoming freshman from WOW to SOAR, relegating WOW to on-campus activities. Keep in mind not every student participates in SOAR, especially out of state students due to the prohibitive cost of travel, and therefore will miss out on becoming acquainted with SLO.
Though the wow leaders are making the best of the new situation, there's no harm voicing our concerns to the leaders who failed to consider us, the student body, in the discussion process.
We, the signers of this petition, request that WOW continue to be an integral part of any new students introduction not only to campus, but to the wonderful town and community. Not only does this help students get adjusted, but it serves an economic interest to local businesses who advertise and gain customers during the events and helps many new and confused freshman find reasons to go downtown.
