Visitors are loving Point Lobos State Natural Reserve to death.

The Issue

Visitors are loving Point Lobos State Natural Reserve to death. State Parks has been ignoring the visitor capacity of 450 persons outlined in the current 1979 General Plan, causing degradation of the natural and cultural resources and the quality of the visitor’s experience. It’s inappropriate for the State Parks Commission to approve the proposed new general plan for Point Lobos scheduled for May 21, 2021, because the plan does not include visitor carrying capacity limits or analysis of the impacts caused by the current extreme visitor numbers. The State Parks Commission should deny this proposed plan as inadequate and direct State Parks staff to adhere to the existing visitor limit or establish new responsible visitor limits.
