CalArts: Reinstate Christina Dailey

The Issue

Christina Dailey has been removed from her position as Student Activities Coordinator at CalArts. We believe this to be an incredibly wrongful termination and a direct theft from student experience and culture at CalArts.

Her level of care and passion for the work she does is unmatched by nearly anyone at the institute. Because of her support of identity groups, her removal directly negates CalArt's claimed commitment to inclusion and being a "safe space" for all who enter.

This is not even to mention the fact that Christina is one of the few black females employed by CalArts. What, exactly, is the institution attempting to communicate to their black community by unjustifiably firing her?

How, exactly, are we supposed to interpret CalArts firing one of their best employees?

Now is not the time to be removing exceptional staff members from an institution filled with students who already feel like outsiders. CalArts is supposed to be a place where everyone is welcome, no matter their identity, and the swift dismissal of Christina Dailey proves that this is not actually the case. Lack of funds should not be used to take away from the institutes biggest asset, its students, and removing Christina Dailey is doing just that.

We are calling for the reinstatement of Christina Dailey as Student Activities coordinator, and the refunding of the Office of Student Activities.
