This project started off as my fifth grade science fair project this year.  It was a way to bring together my interest in ocean wildlife and my schoolwork. In California we have a big problem with ocean pollution. Our beaches are dirty. Tons of plastic soda rings, medical trash and city garbage are dumped into the ocean every year.  In Long Beach, in particular, we have a problem with plastic bags seriously harming sea life.  Each year these animals swallow or get tangled up in plastic bags.  Long Beach has a law against business using plastic bags, but it’s not enough. Please join me in awareness of the plastic bag problem!  Tell your friends, your teachers, your family and neighbors.  If we all work together, we can help reduce the amount of plastic bags in the ocean and the deaths of sea life not just in Long Beach, but in all of California. Solution- Stop using plastic bags and use reusable and paper bags  Reduce the amount of plastic bags; use canvas bags or biodegradable bags Reuse plastic bags and other bags Recycle plastic bags at recycling centers and your home.
