Hi, my name is Ace Adame and I am part of the balisong (butterfly knife) community. This petition is to make balisongs legal to carry on your person and use outside the confines of your home. Butterfly knives used to be legal in California, but in the 80s, due to the rise in balisongs being used as, and portrayed in movies, as “gang related weapons”, the law moved to make them illegal to carry on your person outside of ones home. This needs to change. Butterfly knives are no longer weapons that fuel gang activity, and have relations with gangs, but are a tool just like any other pocket knife, no more dangerous than any other tool. It is also widely used as a flow art, or a skill toy. Butterfly knife manipulation is an ever growing hobby, and the community is well over 50k people and growing. Please understand that this is just a hobby enjoyed by many, and a tool, not a weapon used by gang members. Sign this petition to help change the law on butterfly knives for the many users that are unable to fully express their art form outside of their house.
