Newly elected Fish and Game Commission President Dan Richards is unqualified to lead a body that purports to follow a "path of sound and enlightened resource management" in our state. Commission President Richards has a long record of opposing animal conservation measures, but the last straw came about recently, when he travelled to Idaho, killed a Mountain Lion and bragged about it on a hunting blog. In it, Commissioner Richards poses with the Mountain Lion and the caption reads: "Asked about California’s mountain lion moratorium, Richards didn’t hesitate. “I’m glad it’s legal in Idaho.”" It is illegal to hunt Mountain Lions in California, so it is deeply disturbing that someone in a position of power to manage our state's resources mocks the same laws he's entrusted to uphold on our behalf.
