Urge the CA Dept. of Fish and Game not to euthanize "Meatball"
The Issue
It is very important that people urge the California Department of Fish and Game away from their decision to euthanize a black bear, nicknamed "Meatball" who has been visiting the La Crescenta area frequently since April. If the bear keeps coming back, and harms property or becomes a threat to public safety, Fish and Game Capt. Michael Stefanak said he could be destroyed. Supporters of kindness towards animals should point out to the officials that it would be a wiser route to send Meatball to a near-by zoo or sanctuary. Their attempts to keep Meatball away from the area are not working. The Fish and Game release Meatball back to the forest, but he keeps coming back. Instead of killing him, Fish and Game officials should not promote violence as a means to solve a problem. Instead, please urge them to tell residents of La Crescenta not to keep any food in their trashcans as a means to help prevent his return. That's what the bear is after, so by keeping our trash unappealing to Meatball, he will get bored with the area and take his business elsewhere. There are plenty and far more humane options for his fate, than to kill him. Please e-mail the department at director@dfg.ca.gov to help spread this stance upon the matter.
